The function of the rooms to the west of the churches has not been determined. We don’t know whether they served domestic, administrative, or residential purposes. It remains a mystery what some of their furnishings, like a ceramic bathtub, for example, were used for.
Drinking room
Today, we would call this room—or, more precisely, the installation inside it—a drink dispenser. The large vessels mounted on the stone support were filled with water. The part of the chamber behind them was unroofed, forming a kind of vent. Cooler air wafted in through the entrance, and warmer air escaped through the ‘chimney.’ As a result, water in the vessels was always cool.
