Latrines

It sounds funny, but the monastic latrines hold a mystery. Why were there so many? One lavatory complex was built in the eastern part of the monastery in the first phase of its existence; the second one was added presumably in the 10th century in the annex. Both comprised of a row of several toilets. In comparison, only two toilets were found in the monastery of Apa Dios in Qasr el-Wizz, which was half smaller. Either a lot of people inhabited Ghazali, or the monks used to treat digestive disorders.
